K-Punk, whom I usually lump in with self-congratulatory contrainism (though, to his credit, I doubt he gives a flying fuck where I lump him), has written a rather good piece on Batman.
I also endorse k-punk’s piece, which both provides an interesting reading and batters down some of the more inane critiques (ie Joker is Islamic terror, hence film is right wing – it struck me that the point was that the Joker precisely wasn’t like your usual terrorist, in that he has no purpose other than mindless destruction, whereas even in the most obtuse conservative construction, ‘Islamo-fascism’ at least has aims).

Well, not so much Batman as the Joker, but… whatever. You get my point.

I agree with Anthony’s assessment of K-punk’s piece.
