Sunday Link Post: Speculations

Some readers may be interested to note that the first issue of the new journal Speculations is online. It includes a number of articles related to contemporary philosophy, including an interesting piece by Fabio Gironi called “Science-Laden Theory: Outlines of Unsettled Alliance”. Ostensibly the piece is about Speculative Realism, but it really goes beyond that and touches on the relationship of the natural sciences to philosophy more generally. Fabio has written a similar piece in relation to religion and theology that I can’t recommend highly enough (warning pdf). The issue also includes essays from Ben Woodard, Michael Austin, Tim Morton (responding to a review of his new book), Graham Harman, interviews conducted by Peter Gratton, and some others. It’s like the internet but in a journal.

Of course the real, narcissistic reason I’m linking to the journal is because it contains the first review of After the Postsecular and the Postmodern: New Essays in Continental Philosophy of Religion (Amazon: US, UK) by Austin Smidt. Remember, if you haven’t already, to please have your library order a copy.

Finally, everyone needs to be reading Jeremy’s blog. He’s been posting on Lacan and Barth recently. Rare to find someone who takes these two “Big Daddies” seriously without turning into an eternal baby. Jeremy is refreshing in that way and he’s drawing out very interesting ideas from both without the need to treat them as infallible.
