The Hermetic Deleuze Book Event Announcement

Today I woke up to a very good review of Joshua Ramey’s The Hermetic Deleuze: Philosophy and Spiritual Ordeal [UK] by Dorothea Olkowski at NDPR, which seems as good of a reason as any to announce the schedule for the upcoming event on the book. [It's been pointed out to me now that today is actually Deleuze's birthday, so fortuitous in a number of ways. - APS]

We will be starting on January 28th with a chapter-by-chapter summary of the book, as our respondents will not be summarizing individual chapters but responding in whatever way they see fit. For those who can get the book, I’d highly recommend it, but the summary should help you to orient yourself in our discussions.

The respondents will then be as follows:
January 29th Daniel Colucciello Barber
January 31st Beatrice Marovich
February 2nd Rocco Gangle
February 4th Daniel Whistler
February 6th APS
February 8th Jacob Sherman

Should be interesting… just started chapter four which reveals that aspects of Platonism that Deleuze felt worth saving. Another fine work that has just been published and worth checking out is Eleanor Kaufman’s new work “Deleuze, The Dark Precursor Dialectic, Structure, Being”. Excellent specialist works delving on aspects of Deleuze that others such as Hallward, Zizek, Badiou, et. al. have yet to deal with in detail.

I look forward to the discussions… thanks again!

Anthony Paul Smith and a group of other scholars will be discussing The Hermetic Deleuze: Philosophy and Spiritual Ordeal by Joshua Ramey from the January 29th to February the 8th… should be an interesting discussion. I’ve found the book to open avenues of thought and speculation in Deleuze’s project that are revealing…

“Heremetic” should definitely be a word! Thanks for coining it, Anthony ;)

  4. Christopher Rodkey Says:

I am curious, what meaning (or aspect) of the word “Hermetic” is being employed here? Or should I just wait and see…?

  5. Anthony Paul Smith Says:

It means connecting up to the esoteric or hermetic traditions, which I think for Joshua means it connects up to a kind of form of life.
